            In Our Tears         들라크루아 (프랑스 화가)  [Delacroix, Ferdinand-Victor-Eugene] 1798. 4. 26 프랑스 샤랑통생모리스~1863. 8. 13 파리. 프랑스의 가장 위대한 낭만주의 화가   들라크루아의 색채사용법은 인상파와 후기인상파 화가들에게 큰 영향을 주었다. 그는 주로 과거와 당대의 사건이나 문학에서 영감을 얻었고, 1832년에 모로코를 방문한 뒤로는 좀더 이국적인 주제도 다루게 되었다. 낭만주의 시대에 자란 들라크루아는 화가 테오도르 제리코와 그의 친구들인 영국 화가 리처드 파크스 보닝턴, 폴란드 태생의 작곡가이자  피아니스트 프레데리크 쇼팽, 프랑스 작가 조르주 상드의 낭만주의에 영향을 받았다. 그러나 빅토르 위고와 엑토르 베를리오즈 등, 많은 예술가들이 참여한 낭만파 운동의 투쟁에는 가담하지 않았다.   그의 첫번째 걸작인 〈지옥의 단테와 베르길리우스 Dante and Virgil in Hell〉는 단테의 〈신곡 Divine Comedy〉에서 영감을 얻었지만, 그 비애감은 미켈란젤로와 루벤스를 연상시킨다. 들라크루아는 키오스 섬에서 그리스인들이 투르크인들에게 대량으로 학살당한 그당시의 사건에서 영감을 얻어 〈키오스 섬의 학살 The Massacre at Chios〉이라는 대작을 완성, 1824년 파리 살롱전에 출품했다. 여기에는 정복자들의 오만한 자부심, 죄없는 그리스인들의 절망과 공포, 드넓은 하늘의 광채 등이 풍부한 표현의 조화를 이루고 있으며 그의 천재성이 유감없이 드러나 있다.  1830년 혁명에서 영감을 얻은 〈민중을 이끄는 자유의 여신 Liberty Leading the People〉은 그가 낭만주의 화풍으로 그린 마지막 작품이다. 그는 결국 낭만주의를 거부하게 되었고, 이후로는 〈사르다나팔루스의 죽음 The Death of Sardanapalus〉에서 나타났던 현란한 색채, 〈리에주 주교의 암살 The Assassination of the Bishop of Li?ge〉에서 보여주었던 대학살의 혼란, 겉만 지나치게 화려한 역사의 잡동사니 등 초기 작품의 특징들을 피하려고 애썼다. 그는 자신의 취향인, 세부 묘사나 극적인 표현의 문학적 서술에 치우치지 않으려 했으며 내면을 고양시켜 주는 원천인 리얼리티를 대면해야 할 필요를 느꼈다.  

1835~61년까지 그는 수많은 대형 벽화를 제작했다. 부르봉 궁전에서는 알현실로 들어가는 입구 위의 벽과 천장에 우의적인 그림을 그렸고, 도서실 천장에는 2점의 반원형 그림과 20점의 펜던티브 그림을 그렸다(1847). 루브르 박물관의 아폴로 전시실에 중앙 천장화를 그렸고(1851), 파리 시청(1871년에 화재로 소실)에 있는 평화의 방에는 천장화와 8점의 패널화 및 팀파눔에 11점의 그림을 그렸다(1849 시작). 생쉴피스 교회의 성천사 예배당의 천장에 성 미카엘을 그렸고,벽에는 야곱과 천사 및 헬리오도루스를 프레스코로 그렸다(1861).    그는 작품에 무리하게 몰두하여 건강을 해쳤다. 게다가 1849년경에 그는 가장 가까운 친척과 친구들을 모두 잃었는데, 1844년에는 조카가 미국의 뉴욕 시에서 죽었고, 1845년에는 형인 샤를 들라크루아 장군이 죽었으며 1849년에는 그와 절친했던 쇼팽이 죽었다. 그후 그는 오로지 상상을 통해 그림을 그리는 데만 전념했다. 그가 죽은 뒤 파리 퓌르스텐베르 광장에 있는 그의 아파트는 그를 기념하는 국립박물관이 되었다.
