He is especially drawn to textures and patterns, as evidenced by his detailed rendering of individual subway tiles and the rich array of objects, textiles, and colours in his still lifes. Educating defines his career as much as painting does; In addition to decades instructing students at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League, New York, Greene has written two books on pastels and produced a video series for would-be artists everywhere.
