Male, born in 1940, is a native of Hengyang, Hunan Province, alias Zhong Ya. He was former executive vice-president of the Hunan Artists Association, is now executive member of the Chinese Artists Association and vice-president of the Hunan Provincial Cultural Association and director of the Hunan Painting and Calligraphy Research Institute. He is also rated national first class artist and granted special allowance from the State Council for his outstanding expertise.
Zhong was graduated from the secondary school of Guangzhou Art College in 1961 and later from the Guangzhou Art College in 1966. He studied under the guidance from Southern masters such as Guan Shanyue and Li Xiongcai and spent a long time in Chinese painting. He specializes in portraits, landscapes, flower-and-bird and calligraphy. His works are marked by smooth and vital strokes. His mastery of complicated composition exhibits his virtuosity and distinct artistic style.
His works have been selected for the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th Chinese National Art Exhibition, in which “Paper Cut” and “Hibiscus Town” were awarded Silver Prize and Bronze Prize respectively. Both were also anthologized in the Grand Exhibition Album. “Miao Maids” was awarded in Beijing, Taipei, Hong Kong, Wuhan, Guilin, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Shantou, Changsha, and also been shown in U.S., Britain, France, Canada, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong. His published works include “Exhibition of Zhong Zengya’s Works” and“Selected Chinese Paintings of Zhong Zengya”.
